CVS's Viagra, the No. 1 Rx Drug, Has Over-the-Counter Sales Data

Last year, the Food and Drug Administration issued two warning letters about the sale of counterfeit Viagra and erectile dysfunction drugs.

In a letter to the FDA, CVS Pharmacist Michael J. Smith, M. D., said he was aware of reports of counterfeit Viagra and erectile dysfunction drugs sold on the Internet. He said, "The problem is that counterfeiters don't have access to the Internet."

He said that the drug maker, Pfizer Inc., and other manufacturers of erectile dysfunction drugs in the United States have used online pharmacies to sell counterfeit versions of the drugs.

Last year, the FDA warned that the online pharmacies selling erectile dysfunction drugs could contain hidden health and safety information that could be harmful.

"These counterfeit drugs are not only dangerous for consumers but potentially life-threatening for those who have health conditions such as AIDS or heart disease," said FDA officials in New York.

"The Food and Drug Administration has a responsibility to ensure that counterfeiters are not sold or distributed that contains hidden health and safety information," said FDA Commissioner Scott Gottlieb.

The FDA is requiring drug manufacturers to post warnings and other documents to the FDA to help protect the public.

Last year, CVS had over $1.3 billion in sales, with a share of $1.7 billion.

Last year, Viagra, the brand-name drug for erectile dysfunction, was the top-selling erectile dysfunction drug among U. S. adults.

For the first time, a new drug that works the same way as Pfizer's erectile dysfunction drug Viagra has been marketed, the Food and Drug Administration is advising consumers not to purchase any of its products. The products are listed below.

"These products are counterfeit drugs, and they are not only dangerous for consumers but also potentially life-threatening for those having health conditions such as AIDS or heart disease," said Janet Woodhoussin, director of the FDA's Center for Drug Evaluation and Research.

A spokesman for CVS, Pfizer's U. subsidiary that sells the drug, said in a statement that the company had not responded to a request for comment.
